IMAT 2026 Ranking: When It's Published and What to Do

Updated on 4 min readBy the UniTest Pro Editorial Team

In short: for EU candidates and non-EU candidates living in Italy, the IMAT has one national calendar, set by the ministry. The decree sets the anonymous scores for 8 October 2026, your own answer sheet for 19 October, and the national ranking for 26 October, all in your reserved area on Universitaly. The second scroll follows on 3 November. From then on, missing a single deadline can cost you the seat.

The 2026 dates

These dates are set by the ministerial decree, the same for every university and every candidate in the national rankings.

There are two national rankings: one shared by Medicine and Dentistry, one for Veterinary Medicine. To be in them you need at least 20 out of 90.

Assigned, booked, waiting

At every scroll each candidate gets one status. What you must do depends on it:

  • Assigned (assegnato): you fall within the seats of your first useful preference. Enrol within 4 days, counting the scroll day and excluding Saturdays and holidays. Miss it and the seat is gone: the decree accepts no justification.
  • Booked (prenotato): you have a seat at a lower preference. Enrol there within the same 4 days (this cancels every other preference) or wait for a better one to free up. Waiting does not cost you the booked seat.
  • Waiting (in attesa): no seat yet. Your only job is to confirm your interest after every scroll.

Confirming your interest

This is the easiest deadline to miss. After each scroll, unless you have already enrolled, renounced, or there are no seats left for your preferences, you must confirm your interest in staying in the ranking by 12:00 on the fifth day after the scroll, counting the publication day and excluding Saturdays and holidays.

  • Check now that you can log into Universitaly and see your answer sheet
  • Put 26 October and 3 November in your calendar
  • After every scroll, confirm your interest the same day, not on the fifth
  • If assigned, have your enrolment documents ready: you have 4 working days
  • If you'll be unreachable, arrange in advance for a trusted person to act on your behalf

Non-EU candidates living abroad

If you are a non-EU citizen living abroad, you are not in the national rankings. You compete only for the reserved seats of the university where you pre-enrolled, in a local ranking that the university itself publishes, and any score above zero makes you eligible. The decree gives no date for these rankings: check that university's admission page and call (bando), or our non-EU rankings university by university.

FAQ

When is the IMAT 2026 ranking published?

The national nominal rankings are published on 26 October 2026 in your reserved area on Universitaly. The decree sets the anonymous scores by label code for 8 October, in the same reserved area, and access to your own answer sheet and score for 19 October.

Is there one ranking or one per university?

For EU candidates (and non-EU candidates living in Italy) there are two national rankings: one for Medicine and Dentistry, one for Veterinary Medicine. Non-EU candidates living abroad are not in them: they compete only in the local ranking of the university where they pre-enrolled, set by that university.

What does ASSIGNED mean?

Your score falls within the seats of your first useful preference. You must enrol within 4 days, counting the day the ranking scrolls and excluding Saturdays and public holidays. If you don't, you lose the seat, whatever the reason.

What does BOOKED mean?

You have a seat at a lower preference. You can enrol there within the same 4 days as an assigned candidate, which cancels all your other preferences, or wait for a higher preference to free up. If you wait, you keep the booked seat.

Do I need to confirm my interest?

Yes, after every scroll, by 12:00 on the fifth day after it (counting the publication day, excluding Saturdays and holidays), unless you have already enrolled or renounced, or there are no seats left for your preferences. Miss it once and you are excluded from all later scrolls, with no right to enrol.

When are the scrolls?

The first assignments come with the ranking on 26 October 2026 and the second scroll on 3 November 2026. After that each scroll repeats the same cycle (enrol, confirm interest). The decree sets no end date for scrolling.

Where do I check my status?

In your reserved area on Universitaly: the decree publishes scores, rankings and every scroll there, and the deadlines run from the day of publication.

How are ties broken?

First by the higher score in biology, then chemistry, then physics and maths, then logic, then reading comprehension and knowledge from studies; then holding a language certificate listed in Allegato 3 of the decree; then a disability of at least 66% or a certification under Law 104/1992, art. 3, paragraph 3; finally the younger candidate wins.
