Free Bocconi simulation: 50 questions, two penalties

Updated on 6 min readBy the UniTest Pro Editorial Team

In breve: the free Bocconi simulation runs in the UniTest Pro app: 50 questions in 75 minutes, the five sections and the real scoring — −0.20 where there are five options, −0.33 in critical thinking, which has three. You start for free.

The Bocconi test has a quirk almost nobody exploits: two different penalty systems inside the same paper. Understanding them changes where it pays to attempt an answer.

The five sections

How the 50 questions of the Bocconi online test are distributed

Mathematics245−0.20
Reading comprehension115−0.20
Numerical reasoning65−0.20
Critical thinking — data and propositions53−0.33
Critical thinking — passage analysis43−0.33
Total50—75 minutes

Mathematics alone is almost half the paper: 24 questions out of 50.

Two penalties in one paper

The three main sections have five options and deduct 0.20 per error. Critical thinking has three options and deducts 0.33. At a glance it looks like the harsher section. The arithmetic says the opposite.

Where guessing pays most

With five options and −0.20, a blind guess is worth +0.04. With three options and −0.33 it is worth +0.11 — nearly three times as much, because a one-in-three chance beats a one-in-five even at a higher penalty.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Bocconi simulation free?

You start for free: one full simulation a month and ten practice questions a day. Premium removes the limits.

How is the Bocconi online test structured?

50 questions in 75 minutes: Mathematics 24, Reading comprehension 11, Numerical reasoning 6, plus two Critical thinking sections (5 and 4 questions).

How is it scored?

+1 for a correct answer and 0 for a blank. The penalty is −0.20 in the five-option sections and −0.33 in critical thinking, which has three options.

Should I guess on the Bocconi test?

Yes, in both cases. A blind guess is worth +0.04 across five options and +0.11 across three. A blank is always worth zero, so leaving a question unanswered gives up value.

Is critical thinking the hardest section?

It carries the highest penalty but the fewest options — which, in scoring terms, makes it the best section to attempt rather than the worst.

How much does mathematics matter?

Almost half the test: 24 of the 50 questions. No other section comes close.

Where does the simulation run?

In the UniTest Pro app, on iPhone and Android, with the same structure and scoring as the test.

Are the questions always the same?

No. Every simulation draws from a bank built on the official format, so repeating one trains you instead of testing your memory.
