Free Bocconi Law simulation: five maths questions, not twenty-four

Updated on 6 min readBy the UniTest Pro Editorial Team

In breve: the free Bocconi Law simulation runs right in your browser: 50 original questions in 75 minutes, the five sections and the official scoring — −0.20 where there are five options, −0.33 where there are three — with no sign-up. In the UniTest Pro app every simulation draws new questions.

The Bocconi test has a quirk almost nobody exploits: two different penalty systems inside the same paper. Understanding them changes where it pays to attempt an answer.

Bocconi publishes the five sections and their totals, and says only that some critical-thinking questions have three options. The halves (9 + 9, 5 + 5) and which of them have three options are how our simulation models it, not an official breakdown.

Mathematics is 5 questions out of 50 — against 24 in the standard Bocconi test. If maths is your weak point, Law is not just a different degree: it is a different paper.

Two penalties in one paper

Most questions have five options and deduct 0.20 per error. In our simulation two halves — the data half of logic and critical thinking, and verbal evaluation — have three options and deduct 0.33. At a glance those look harsher. The arithmetic says the opposite.

Where guessing pays most

With five options and −0.20, a blind guess is worth +0.04. With three options and −0.33 it is worth +0.11 — nearly three times as much, because a one-in-three chance beats a one-in-five even at a higher penalty.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Bocconi simulation free?

Yes, in two ways. In the browser there is a free full simulation, no sign-up, always with the same 50 questions. In the UniTest Pro app you start for free with one full simulation a month and ten practice questions a day; Premium removes the limits.

How is the Bocconi Law test structured?

50 questions: Reading comprehension 11, Logic and critical thinking 18, Numerical reasoning 6, Mathematics 5, Verbal reasoning 10.

How is it scored?

+1 for a correct answer and 0 for a blank. The penalty is −0.20 wherever there are five options and −0.33 wherever there are three; Bocconi does not say exactly which questions have three.

Should I guess on the Bocconi Law test?

Yes, in both cases. A blind guess is worth +0.04 across five options and +0.11 across three. A blank is always worth zero, so leaving a question unanswered gives up value.

Are the three-option questions the hardest?

They carry the highest penalty but the fewest options — which, in scoring terms, makes them the best questions to attempt rather than the worst.

How much does mathematics matter?

Far less than in the standard Bocconi test: 5 questions out of 50, against 24. The weight sits on reading, logic and verbal reasoning instead.

Where does the simulation run?

In the browser, on the Bocconi Law simulation page, or in the UniTest Pro app on iPhone and Android: either way with the structure and scoring of the test.

Are the questions always the same?

In the browser, yes: 50 fixed questions, useful as a first measure. In the app, no: every simulation draws from a bank built on the official format, so repeating one trains you instead of testing your memory.
